Licensure decides your start date more often than sourcing

Most systems assume finding the clinician is the slow part. In a non-compact state it usually is not — the board is. These pages set out what licensure requires where you operate, where demand concentrates, and what that means for the date someone can actually walk onto the unit.

The compact

Why the same requisition fills faster in Ohio than in California

The Nurse Licensure Compact lets a nurse whose primary residence is in a member state practice in other member states on a multistate privilege, without applying for a new license each time.

Practically, that means a compact-to-compact placement can often start as soon as credentialing and onboarding are complete. A placement into a non-compact state waits on a board, and boards move at their own pace regardless of how urgently the unit needs coverage.

This is the single most common reason a start date slips, and it is entirely predictable at intake. We tell you which situation you are in before you approve the requisition, not after.

What we do either way
  • We fund licensure — application, fees, and follow-up, not left to the clinician
  • We drive it — chased by us, with weekly written status
  • Pending is disclosed — shown on the profile, never discovered later
  • Realistic dates — we quote the date the board supports, not the one you want
  • Multi-state systems — handled centrally under one agreement
How to read a market

National averages hide the answer you need

Every vendor quotes a national fill rate because it is the most flattering number they have. It averages easy markets with hard ones and tells you nothing about yours.

Ask for this state

Fill rate, by your specialty, in your market. If a vendor cannot produce it, they have not measured their own performance where you operate.

Metros differ from each other

Rates vary more between cities inside one state than between neighboring states. A single statewide rate card usually means nobody has looked closely.

Rural is its own search

Critical access facilities compete for a much smaller pool and often need housing support to fill at all. Averaging them into a state number hides the difficulty.

Every state we staff

Compact status is shown against each. Open a state for licensure detail, where demand concentrates, and what it means for your timeline.

Compact membership reflects Nurse Licensure Compact participation and can change; we confirm current status at intake.

Multi-state systems

One agreement, however many states you operate in

Systems that cross state lines usually end up with a vendor relationship per market and no consolidated view of spend. We run it centrally — one services agreement, one account team, one invoice coded to your cost centers, and licensure managed per state without you tracking any of it.

  • Rate cards by market, not one national figure that fits nowhere.
  • Reporting rolled up and broken down, so you can see the system and the site.
  • Compliance to each state requirement, tracked centrally.
  • Escalation path that does not change when the requisition is in a different state.
