Home / Services / PRN & per diem

Cover the daily variance without a contract

Call-outs, census swings, weekends, and holidays do not need a thirteen-week commitment. Blue Water runs credential-verified per diem pools — your house supervisor posts the need and sees a confirmation, not a callback list.

How a shift gets filled

Posted once, offered to everyone qualified at the same moment

Per diem fails in two ways: nobody shows, or somebody shows who should not have been cleared to. Both are process problems, and both are solvable.

  • Simultaneous distribution. The need goes to every qualified, currently-credentialed clinician in the market at once — not down a call list in order of who answers.
  • Eligibility checked at claim time. License, certifications, immunizations, and competencies are re-verified against expiry dates when the shift is claimed, not when the clinician was hired.
  • Confirmation to your supervisor. You see a name and a confirmation, and we re-confirm 24 hours before report time.
  • Reliability scored per clinician. Repeat no-shows are removed from your facility's pool, and we backfill at our cost when we placed them.

What you get

Coverage that arrives credential-complete

Post once, get a confirmation

Post from the portal or send it to your coordinator. Claims are confirmed to your supervisor once eligibility checks clear, and same-day needs carry a defined surge rate rather than an improvised one.

Verified before report

License, certifications, immunizations, competencies, background and drug screening current and checked automatically against expiry dates at claim time.

Float pool overflow, not competition

We integrate behind your internal resource pool. Your own float staff are deployed first; we cover only what remains once internal options are exhausted. The cheapest hour is one you already employ.

Continuity, not strangers

The same clinicians return to the same units. Loyalty rates and site preferences are built into the booking engine, so your staff work with familiar faces instead of a new person every shift.

No-call-out accountability

Reliability is scored per clinician and visible to your coordinator. Repeat no-shows come out of your pool, and a backfill is our cost, not yours.

Hours billed, not hours booked

Time capture is approved by your manager against the actual schedule before invoicing. No reconciliation cycle three weeks later trying to remember who worked what.

Where PRN works hardest

Settings with the sharpest daily variance

Per diem earns its keep where volume moves day to day and a contract would either sit idle or run short. These are the settings where our pools are deepest.

Skilled nursing & LTC

Med pass, treatment nurse, and CNA coverage across weekends and night shift.

Acute med-surg & tele

Call-out backfill and census-driven overflow without opening a contract.

Emergency departments

Surge and holiday premium coverage with a defined rate policy set in advance.

Ambulatory surgery

Case-driven scrub and circulator coverage with no call and no weekend burden.

Behavioral health

Sitter, tech, and RN coverage for acuity spikes and 1:1 observation requirements.

Dialysis & home health

Chronic outpatient chair coverage and per-visit home health assignments.

Client FAQ

How per diem works here

Rates, reliability, and how PRN sits alongside your internal pool.

No. Post one shift a month or forty a week. There is no minimum, no monthly retainer, and no penalty for a quiet period — you are billed for hours worked and nothing else.
Defined in your rate card before the surge, not negotiated during it. Same-day needs and designated holidays carry a published premium so there is no improvised pricing when you are short at 5am.
We backfill at our cost and the no-show is scored against that clinician. Repeat offenders are removed from your facility's pool. Reliability scoring is visible to your coordinator in the VMS.
No — we configure the release rules so internal resources are offered the shift first and we only see what remains. Several clients use us specifically to right-size their IRP rather than replace it.
Yes, and we encourage it. Conversion terms are agreed up front in your services agreement, typically as a declining fee based on hours already worked at your facility.
Your manager approves time against the actual schedule in the VMS before it is invoiced. Charges appear on the same consolidated invoice as any other Blue Water service line, coded to your cost centers.
